The secretary of the ANC in the North West province, Kabelo Mataboge, survived an apparent assassination attempt in Mmabatho on Friday morning.
Police spokesperson, Philane Nkwalse, says shots were fired at Mataboge at about 3am.
The motive for the attack is not clear.
"According to the information that we have at this stage it is alleged that the victim arrived at home and as he was about to open his gate, shots were fired but none hit him" Nkwalse said.
