This footage was taken n by Tshepo Phiri and shows what looks like a Tornado. Twenty homes were damaged in the storm, however weather officials in the area say due to the fact that they did not see a 'tornado' on their radar's they cannot confirm. (looks pretty legit to us?) What do you think? This is the 2nd Tornado spotted in the country over the last week.
Tornado's are very rare in South Africa but certainly not impossible.
On the 20th of March 1990 Riebeeckstad, Welkom (Free State) was hit by a multi-vortex tornado which was part of a 240 km long storm front and had a width of up to 1.7 km. It destroyed 4 000 homes, killing 2 people and injuring hundreds.
Amanda Erasmus took pictures of a Tornado on the farm Bloedrivierspoort, between Vryheid and Utrecht in Kwazulu-Natal on Saturday.
