Another child found murdered in the Western Cape

Police in the Western Cape are investigating a murder after the body of another child was found

Spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa says a family from Tulbagh in the Cape Winelands reported their seven-year-old son missing on Sunday and a search party was immediately initiated.

She says just after 7 am the search party made the gruesome discovery

The child's body was found in the bushes on the river bank.

Potelwa says detectives followed up on information and arrested a 53-year-old suspect

He is expected to appear in the Tulbagh Magistrate's Court soon on a charge of murder.

Meanwhile, a 23-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates' Court in Cape Town on Monday in connection with the disappearance of a 12-year-old boy from Hout Bay on Wednesday last week.

The suspect, who was known to the 12-year-old, is believed to be the last person who was in the company of the child.

Brigadier Potelwa says the suspect was arrested on Saturday as part of the investigation into the disappearance of the child.

The probe is yet to determine through forensic evidence whether the body found between reeds at a farm in Hout Bay on Friday was that of the missing child.

More details on the investigation are expected to emerge in court.
