ANC top six to ask Zuma on Sunday to step down - reports

The ANC’s top leadership will reportedly formally ask President Jacob Zuma on Sunday to step down.

City Press reported that it’s expected that Zuma would leave soon, but only after delivering the State Of The Nation Address, which he reportedly insists on doing.

The newspaper said that Zuma's insistence on delivering Sona could cause a constitutional crisis.

This, after opposition parties have told National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete that they will approach a court to ask for an interdict to stop the opening of Parliament on Thursday.

This week Mbete said Sona will go ahead as planned with whoever is President, delivering the State Of The Nation Address.

Opposition parties said on Friday that if President Jacob Zuma stayed in office come 2019 “there would be no country to govern.”

The EFF's Godrich Gardee said South Africa cannot have a president who violates the constitution.

"We must impeach Jacob Zuma, table the budget and make sure that we can elect a president at the right time," said DA leader Mmusi Maimane, who was in Nelson Mandela Bay on Friday.
