The ANC says it has issued a letter of formal demand to the DA regarding what it said were false SMS's distributed by or on behalf of the DA.
The SMS stated that the report of the Public Protector proves President Zuma stole 246 million rand to build his house and urging voters to vote for the DA to beat corruption.
The ANC says its letter of demand calls for the DA to retract and apologise for this false and vindictive text message by 5pm on Monday, failing which the ANC will proceed with seeking legal recourse for the DA's contravention of sections of the Electoral Act and the Electoral Code of Conduct.
ANC spokesperson, Jackson Mthembu, says this contravention has also been reported to the Independent Electoral Commission.
He says the ANC is prepared to take this firm action not only to protect the integrity of the President of the ANC and the ANC itself but most importantly the integrity of the electoral process as a whole.
Mthembu says the DA's text message breaches the Electoral Code of Conduct, which was signed by all parties.
