ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa said the party's National Executive Committee had called on law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in their investigation into corruption linked to Covid19 procurement.
He was addressing the media on Monday afternoon following the weekend meeting of the NEC where the issue of corruption, allegedly also involving ANC members and associates, took centre stage.
"The NEC welcomed the decision by the government to make public details of Covid19-related contracts awarded by all Departments and public entities," Ramaphosa said.
He said this was an important step towards greater transparency and accountability in government procurement.
The ANC president said the party's NEC also took resolutions to tackle corruption within its own ranks and across society. Ramaphosa said in this regard the meeting received a report from their National Working Committee on individuals in the ANC who are facing charges of corruption or other serious crimes.
"The NEC welcomed the report and actions being taken at various levels and resolved that these actions must be completed as a matter of urgency. This must be accompanied by public accountability," Ramaphosa said, adding that this would be a "turning point in the fight against corruption".
The ANC NEC also endorsed the contents of Ramaphosa's letter to party members last week on dealing with the corruption and its impact on the governing party, as a "clear articulation of the policies and positions of the organisation and agreed to the implementation of the points of action contained their-in."
He said what appeared to be a "choreographed" campaign against him would not detract from the party's intensified programme against corruption and state capture as mandated by their 54th national congress which saw him ascended to the Presidency, now amid rumours of vote-buying.
Ramaphosa said the ANC NEC also agreed that cadres who are formally charged with corruption and other serious crimes must immediately step aside from all leadership positions in the party, Legislatures or other government structures pending the finalisation of their cases.
Other resolutions taken by the NEC included that cadres implicated in corruption and other serious criminal practices must explain themselves to the party's integrity commission while those who are convicted of corruption or other serious crimes must resign from leadership positions and face disciplinary action.
