ANC: "Pigs head campaign is a violation of religion"

The African National Congress has condemned the so called "pigs head campaign' led by members of student group Cosas.

This reaction stems from the student organisation's recent campaign to place pigs heads in sections of Woolworths stores in protests against Israel's actions in Gaza.

In a statement on Tuesday, Cosas indicated that they wanted Wooloworths to stop buying Israeli products and in protest the group held a press conference at the Woolworths head quarters in Cape Town

Spokesperson, Keith Khoza, says no ANC branch can endorse the pigs head campaign.

A twitter account with the handle ANC branch and with over twenty two thousand followers earlier endorsed the campaign and called for support.

Khoza said that the account could not be authentic.

"It is a violation of religion and religious beliefs and as the ANC we cannot associate with that. There is no ANC branch that can endorse that campaign, whoever is behind that is mischievous and wants it to look legitimate just to discredit the ANC. The ANC does not support the pigs head campaign we have condemned it." said Khoza.

Within minutes the account was deactivated.
