The African National Congress said it was dismayed by the fact that one of its employees was arrested and appeared in court alleged involvement in serious crimes.
On Wednesday, Johannesburg mayor, Herman Mashaba, announced that one of the suspects arrested in connection with a cash-in-transit heist, works at the ANC headquarters at Luthuli House.
The arrests were made earlier this month.
ANC national spokesperson, Pule Mabe, said the governing party will follow its internal disciplinary policy for employees and will ensure that appropriate action is taken.
Mabe says crime remains a serious cancer in the country's young democracy “and we must continue to fight it in whatever of its manifestations”.
“We support the efforts by the law enforcement agencies to investigate, arrest and charge perpetrators to such high priority crimes,” Mabe said.
