The ANC has defended the visit to former president Nelson Mandela on Monday, by members of the party's top six, including president Jacob Zuma.
This, after the party came in for a barrage of criticism on social networks from South Africans who accused the ANC of parading the ailing Madiba as part of a publicity stunt.
The SABC, the only broadcaster invited to Madiba's Houghton home, showed images of a smiling Zuma with a frail-Mandela.
But, in an interview with ENCA on Tuesday, ANC national spokesperson Jackson Mthembu, denied the visit to Madiba was a publicity stunt.
He said Madiba is not only an ANC icon but an icon of South Africa and the world.
Mthembu said the public had not seen images of Mandela for many months since he began treatment for a recurring health problem.
