South African born British war veteran, Jaco van Gass and compatriot Stu Croxford will be two unique competitors at the 2019 Absa Cape Epic this March.
The pair, who fought in the war in Afghanistan and sustained life-altering injuries, will be challenging the "preconceptions of what is possible for amputees" when they take on the gruelling endurance race run over eight days.
Van Gass lost his left arm at the elbow and suffered other serious injuries when he was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade shortly before he was due to end his second tour of duty.
Croxford suffered severe injuries to both of his feet when the vehicle he was traveling in ran over an improvised explosive device in 2012.
The pair, considered to among the toughest riders in the 2019 race, which also includes Moto GP rider, Aleix Espargaro, will be riding to raise aid for the Wigley Support Fund which was started in 2017 to help re-train injured, serving and veteran soldiers, to equip them with new skills for a new start.
