South Africa has lost 588 rhino to poachers so far this year.
The Department of Environmental Affairs says the total number of arrests now stands at 246.
Department spokesperson, Albie Modise, says South Africa has lost 140 more rhino than the 448 poached last year, while 224 poachers were arrested in 2011.
According to the latest figures 39 rhino had been killed since the middle of November.
Kruger National Park continues to bear the brunt of the onslaught.
