Police said a 29-year-old man was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport for allegedly trying to smuggle drugs worth R2.15 million into the country.
Hawks spokesperson, Colonel Philani Nkwalse, said the suspect is due to appear in court in Kempton Park on Monday.
He said the suspect, who was travelling from Brazil to Johannesburg was escorted to Customs for processing after he had been refused entrance into the country by the Department of Home Affairs.
Nkwalase said his bag was searched by Customs officers who found cocaine valued at approximately R2.15 million.
He said the man was immediately arrested by a multidisciplinary team which included members from Crime Intelligence Head Office, State Security OR Tambo, SARS Detector Dog Unit, Department of Home Affairs, Hawks East Rand and Head Office teams DPCI.
