The Hawks are looking for a woman who allegedly swindled people out of R18 million last year.
Spokesperson Lloyd Ramovha says Shareen Govender pretended to be the director of Aurum Line Pty (Ltd) - a real company that supplied personal protective equipment.
He says Govender had no ties to this company yet used their name to mislead potential investors to invest in her venture, promising high monthly returns that never materialised.
Ramovha says the victims grew tired of Govender's empty promises and when she failed to keep her end of the bargain it became apparent that she falsified her documents for the purpose of extorting funds.
He says a case was opened against her in Johannesburg and a probe revealed that there were several other cases against her.
The Hawks believe that Govender is still in the country and possibly living somewhere in the KwaZulu Natal Province.
Any person with information about her whereabouts can contact Captain Hennie Pretorius on 079 886 3555
