A 39-year-old man accused of shooting three people dead at Somerset Hospital in Cape Town this weekend, says he will not be applying for bail.
Jean-Paul Malgas appeared in Magistrates Court on Tuesday on three counts of murder, the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and robbery.
The National Prosecuting Authority says Malgas is charged with Schedule six offences.
According to police, an officer from Sea Point took a suspect to the hospital for medical attention when Malgas grabbed his firearm and shot him in the head.
He then allegedly shot two patients in the proximity aged 42 and 48.
The 32-year-old Constable Donay Phillips died later in hospital.
The court ordered that no pictures of the accused must be taken, as an identity parade will still need to be conducted.
The State also advised the court, that it is still waiting for the postmortem report, ballistic report and witness statements.
Malgas was brought to court in shackles and handcuffs and advised the court that he was suicidal and suffered from depression.
The matter was postponed until the 30th of June for further investigation.
