Five suspects linked to the kidnapping and robbery of a Bloemfontein businessman are expected to appear in court this week.
The 43-year-old Shaiful Islam was reported missing three weeks ago after his white Toyota Hilux bakkie was found parked outside the Parkweg Police Station.
Brigadier Motantsi Makhele says a police investigation revealed that more than one suspect was involved in the kidnapping after the victim’s family received anonymous calls demanding varied amounts of money for ransom.
On Friday, police arrested three foreign nationals between the ages of 36 and 50 in Hilton.
Two South Africans aged 24 and 29 were subsequently nabbed in Springfontein where the victim was being held captive.
Brigadier Makhele says that during the kidnapping, the victim was allegedly also robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash that he had collected after delivering stock in Dealesville.
The investigation into the incident continues.
