An alleged hitman was arrested in Bloemfontein this week after he phoned his so-called target to extort money from him.
Police Spokesperson Captain Christopher Singo says the 46-year-old suspect allegedly called his victim on Friday and informed him that he was hired to kill him.
He says the suspect asked the man for R5 000 to provide details about the people who hired him.
The Hawks were notified and the victim agreed to meet the suspect at Mimosa Mall to hand over the money.
Captain Singo says the suspect was arrested shortly after taking the money and will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on Thursday on charges of extortion and conspiracy to commit murder.
