Two alleged drug mules are in police custody following their arrest at the OR Tambo International Airport on Sunday.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Thatohatsi Mavimbela says 51-year-old Pieter Johan Cristie and 52-year-old Belinda Butcher were about to board a flight on Etihad Airways to Israel, when they were stopped and searched.
She says the couple was intercepted by a multi-disciplinary task team who found Crystal Meth in their luggage with an estimated street value of R2 million.
According to police, who received information about the pair, it was not Butcher and Cristie's first attempt at trafficking drugs.
WO Mavimbela says Butcher had 0.90kg of Crystal Meth in her luggage while Cristie had 1.75 kg.
They were charged for dealing in drugs and Contravention of the Drug Trafficking Act 140 of 1992.
They suspects remain in custody and will be back in court on the 25th of June.
