Two people have been killed while trying to steal power cables in Kwazulu-Natal.
Eskom says the two men were in the process of stealing cables in the Nottingham Road area when they were electrocuted.
They passed away on the scene while a third accomplice was admitted to hospital in a critical condition.
Meanwhile, an Eskom employee has appeared in court on a charge of theft for allegedly stealing transformer oil and power safety solvent gel.
The power utility says the employee was caught by Eskom security personnel while trying to exit their premises in Rosherville, Johannesburg, with three full drums of transformer oil as well as six containers of 5-litre power safety solvent gel for which he had no full removal permit.
Eskom said it was committed to working with law enforcement agencies to curb electricity-related criminal activities, including all forms of theft, even in cases where its employees are involved.
