The Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, Thoko Didiza, said she was shocked to learn of the murder of a young Free State farmer this past week.
In a statement on Saturday, she said 21-year-old Brendin Horner was attacked by an unknown number of assailants on Thursday.
His badly beaten body was found on Friday morning by his father and girlfriend. The bakkie he was driven was later found abandoned.
Minister Didiza sent her “deepest and heartfelt condolences to Horner’s family, friends, and colleagues.”
“I can’t over emphasise the role played by both the farmers and farmworkers in the food production value chain and their killing has a devastating effect on our sector,” she said.
A manhunt was launched for his killers.
