A senior Advocate from North West accused of shoplifting will go on trial in February next year.
The 53-year-old Advocate Jeanette Nevelling, who was the head of the Special Commercial Crimes Unit in the Province, was suspended shortly after her arrest and has since resigned from the NPA.
She is accused of stealing clothing and food from a shopping mall in Mmabatho to the value of approximately R3 000.
NPA Spokesperson Henry Mamothame says Nevelling made presentations at the Molopo Magistrates Court asking for the case not to be prosecuted, however, this was denied and a trial date was set for the 28th of February 2022.
He says Advocate Mashudu Mudau has been appointed from the Limpopo Division of the NPA to ensure there was no perceived conflict of interest.
Advocate Mudau indicated that the State was ready to go on trial.
Nevelling who was arrested in February this year, is out on bail of R500.
