"Advocate Barbie" to be released on parole

Cezanne Visser, commonly known as advocate Barbie, will be released on parole on Monday.

The Department of Correctional Services said in a statement on Sunday that " Visser's placement will be under the maximum category, with strict parole conditions which will be formalized with the Head of Community Corrections in Pretoria upon her release."

Chief Deputy Commissioner for Incarceration and Corrections, James Smalberger, said "Visser has complied with all necessary requirements for release, and her parole has been approved," he said.

"The Department will not hesitate to place her back in custody should she violate her parole conditions."

Smallberger said "currently, in addition to the approximately 152, 550 inmates inside correctional centres, 63,240 offenders are outside correctional centres and live in their respective communities."

"Of the 63,240 offenders, 48,323 are on parole, 14,917 are probationers (convicted offenders serving non-custodial sentences) and an additional 1,719 are awaiting-trial detainees," he added.
