The Leader of the African Christian Democratic Party Rev Kenneth Meshoe has tested positive for Covid19.
Meshoe was one of several people who attended a church gathering in Bloemfontein earlier this month, who subsequently tested positive for the coronavirus.
A Member of Parliament Mr Steve Swart and well-known evangelist Angus Buchan also tested positive after attending the same event.
In a statement, the ACDP expressed their disappointment in the fact that they had to wait for the test results for over five days as this led to unwarranted speculation in the media.
Earlier this week Health Minister Zwheli Mkizhe referred to Bloemfontein as being the “epicentre” of the Coronavirus as several people at the church event tested positive for Covid-19.
Two Americans, two Israelis and one person from France tested positive for Covid-19 after they too attended the “Jerusalem Prayer Breakfast” which was held earlier this month.
On Monday, the Department of Health confirmed the country’s first two deaths for Covid-19 as the number of affected cases surpass a thousand.
