A group of 47 of the country's top legal academics have collectively called on the Judicial Services Commission to appoint advocate Jeremy Gauntlett to the Constitutional Court.
The academics are from the universities of Stellenbosch, Pretoria, the Witwatersrand, Western Cape, Unisa, Rhodes, North West, and NMMU in Port Elizabeth.
Legal experts say its the first time since the inception of the JSC 18 years ago that a single candidate had received support from so many academics.
