A newborn baby girl was rescued from a pit toilet in Ramatlhwa village, Limpopo on Monday, police said.
Spokeswoman Colonel Ronel Otto said residents alerted police after they heard sounds of a baby crying from inside the pit toilet.
“Members of the police search and rescue unit eventually succeeded in bringing the newborn girl back to the surface. She was taken to hospital for treatment,” Otto said.
Police were investigating the incident and a search for the baby’s mother was under way. – African News Agency (ANA)
