The Department of Correctional Service says some 298 prison inmates are potential candidates for medical parole under a policy which came into effect on the First of March.
Correctional Services Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula said during her budget vote Wednesday that her department had appointed a medical parole advisory board in accordance with the new policy.
This was an independent panel of medical doctors which will consider and decide on all medical aspects related to medical parole applications.
