The Automobile Association of South Africa said that a cohesive government strategy is needed to reduce the high death toll on the country's roads.
AA spokesperson Gary Ronald said that the "Decade of Action"-programme was launched in 2011, and since then no real projects other than enforcement have been implemented.
He says real action to curb the road carnage is impossible when there is no cohesive strategy.
The Decade of Action for road safety was launched in more than 100 countries in May 2011, by the United Nations to prevent five million road traffic deaths globally by 2020.
Transport Minister Ben Martins announced on Thursday, that 1,465 people have died on the country's roads between 1st December and 8th January.
