(WATCH):Cops searching for group who staged viral kidnapping video

Police have issued an urgent appeal to members of the public not to share unverified voice notes and videos that refer to alleged criminal activities as they are usually found to be untruthful and therefore, you contribute in the spread of false information.

A Spokesperson for police in North West Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone says this follows after a video showing a woman being kidnapped in broad daylight, turned out to not only be fake but also staged.

He says the video went viral in the Free State and as far as Klerksdorp in the North West Province.

Brigadier Mokgwabone says police were sent on a wild goose chase only to find out that no cases were reported at any police station.

He says they will now approach the Crime Intelligence Unit to further investigate the video to find the culprits.

Kidnapping and human trafficking have been trending on Twitter the last few weeks after a video of a man trying to snatch a 4-year-old child at a restaurant in Gauteng went viral on social media.
