A 49-year-old foreign national is in police custody following his arrest on charges of fraud relating to an online romance scam.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk says detectives attached to the Provincial Crimes Unit in the Western Cape arrested the suspect on Wednesday.
He says it is alleged that the suspect would target women in their sixties on various social media platforms, pretending to be a pilot, looking for love.
According to reports he would promise to visit his victims and would request a fee for the release of goods he purchased for them.
Captain van Wyk says the investigation is still ongoing and more arrests could be made.
The suspect will appear in the Strand Magistrates Court soon.
Police warned vulnerable people looking for love online, not to fall prey to online scams.
