A 42-year-old man, who’s believed to be mentally challenged, is expected appear in court on Monday after he allegedly killed his 55-year-old cousin and a 99-year-old neighbour in two separate incidents.
Eastern Cape police say both victims were on Thursday allegedly beaten to death by the man at Ndlambe village outside Peddie.
Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa said the suspect was later found hiding in nearby bushes.
She said the suspect’s 55-year-old cousin went to visit him before he was assaulted.
“In a separate incident on the same day, it is alleged that the 99-year-old woman, who is a neighbour, was also assaulted to death by the same suspect,” Lt. Col. Mawisa said.
“Police were alerted by the daughter of the deceased woman.
“Police and the community members conducted a search and he was later found in nearby bushes and arrested.”
The Amathole District Commissioner, Major General Ngangema Xakavu, has conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased persons.
