The weekly wool auction in Gqeberha scheduled for Wednesday, 16 February, has been cancelled as a result of ongoing shipping delays.
Cape Wools SA held an emergency meeting on Tuesday to discuss what it said was the quickly evolving situation with regards to shipping delays experienced for the export of wool.
“Due to the worsening situation of available space on shipping lines and the global constraints on the supply chain, it has become increasingly difficult to continue with normal activities until the backlog of unshipped containers has been cleared,” it said in a statement.
Cape Wools said the situation would be monitored continuously.
“Catalogues will be rolled over to the following week and will not be grouped together, with auctions potentially being extended past the scheduled closing date of the season.”
