Ford South Africa's Port Elizabeth engine plant has received another major boost.
The company said it will be increasing production capacity of the Duratorq TDCi diesel engine to cater for new demand from the North American market.
The locally produced 3.2-litre Duratorq turbodiesel engine, which was recently introduced in the New Ford Ranger, will be used in the Transit van when it joins Ford's North American product line-up for the first time next year.
Ford Motor Company South Africa president Jeff Nemeth says this is the first time that their South African operations will be exporting engines to North America.
He says the new order will increase the Struandale plant's annual production by over 31 000 engines.
