Angora Ram Breeders make their mark in Sustainable Breeding


Angora Ram Breeders have made their mark in sustainable breeding with the introduction of a new logo in the production of Mohair.

Speaking at the launch of the new trade mark in Port Elizabeth on Tuesday, the President of the Angora Ram Breeders Society, Mark Shires told Algoa FM News that they aimed to create more awareness about sustainability and the practice of sustainable production.

He said all registered Angora ram stud breeders who participated in the Sustainable Mohair Production Guidelines would be recognized in public and by all Mohair buyers by means of the Angora Ram Breeders Logo.

Shires said the Mohair Industry have been very serious about taking the needs of the buyers and consumers to heart and have developed Sustainable Guidelines with the support of several experts in the field such as Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries at the Grootfontein Agricultural Development Institute, Green Choice Alliance, Eduplan, Endagered Wildlife Trust, Ecocert to name a few.
