The adverse weather conditions which set in across the Eastern Cape overnight have been characterised largely by gale-force winds and very cold conditions.
Damage has been caused on several provincial roads, which is posing a danger to motorists.
Eastern Cape Transport MEC Weziwe Tikana has called for caution at all times among road users and for them to try and avoid travelling if they can.
Mountain passes, in particular, pose less than ideal driving conditions which are set to persist through the weekend.
WARNINGS:
Gale force westerly winds of at least 62km/h are expected in places over the interior and in places along the coast between Plettenberg Bay and East London moderating by late afternoon.
High seas with wave heights in excess of 6m are expected along the coast between Plettenberg Bay and Coffee Bay, subsiding by evening.
Extremely high fire danger conditions in places over OR Tambo District Municipality, Mnquma Local Municipality, Mbashe, Umzimvubu, Ntabankulu and Mbizana.
