The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued several warnings for damaging winds and waves that will have an impact on navigation, damage to coastal infrastructure and beach erosion.
Possible rogue waves can also be expected along the Plettenberg Bay coastline on Saturday afternoon that will spread to Port Edward by the evening into Sunday morning.
The warning was echoed by the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI).
Drowning prevention Manager for the NSRI Andrew Ingram says three of their Pink Rescue buoys have already washed up in the Wilderness where some coastal damage has occurred.
Ingram appealed to the public to report any pink buoys, found to be washed up to their Emergency Operations Centre on 0870949774.
The NSRI’s Pink Rescue Buoys initiative has been a ground-breaking innovation for Drowning Prevention since 2017 and assisted in the rescue of over 100 people.
The initiative also won an international award for innovation and technology five years ago.
