Disaster Management in Nelson Mandela Bay was kept busy Thursday as localised flooding affected residents in several low-lying areas in Walmer Township, parts of Helenvale and Kuyga.

Disaster Management Director Shane Brown said the weather is expected to start clearing later on Friday as the cold front moves through.

He’s also appealed to motorists to be particularly careful as roads across the Metro are currently waterlogged.

Brown said Disaster Management staff are currently deployed in various areas of the Metro to provide relief where needed.

The heavy rains of Thursday were accompanied by icy conditions and a number of mountain passes across the Eastern Cape were closed because of snow.

Kareedouw, in the heart of the catchment area in the Langkloof, received a much needed 32 mm of rain while the Langkloof mountains were also covered in snow – which will ultimately lead to good run-off into the dams.
