The Nelson Mandela Bay metro (NMB) is on high alert following last night's heavy rain that caused flooding in some parts of the metro.
MMC for Safety and Security Lawrence Troon says some homes have been flooded while roads had to be closed as a precautionary measure.
He says a Joint Operation Centre was set up on Saturday night.
Affected roads and areas are the following:
Missionvale
KwaZakhele
New Brighton
Jachvlate
3rd Avenue Dip
Section of M4-Freeway heading towards Summerstrand
Corner of Uitenhage and Sidon Road
Cuyler Bridge in Kariega
The following roads are also to be avoided or used with extreme caution:
Kariega received 80 mm, East London 88.2 mm and Plettenberg Bay, 75.4 mm.
The burning question from residents, however, is whether or not our catchment areas received any significant rain.
Sampson says sadly, not nearly enough.
Jourbertina received 20.8 mm while Kareedouw measured 42 mm for the last three days.
Meanwhile, the SAWS escalated the weather warning in Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality to Level 6 for disruptive rain, although no updates have been provided on damage or disruption yet.
