We’re wearing black too often these days
To mourn our loved ones who die of natural causes
To mourn our loved ones who die at the hands of others
To mourn the attacks of those who have no voices
To mourn the deaths of those who no longer have choices
We’re wearing black too often these days
To mourn the death our democracy dies each day, in the hands of the irresponsible
To mourn the loss of our freedom of speech
To mourn the deaths of rhino, who die in vain
To mourn the deaths of Africa’s children, too often slain
Alas, I’m wearing black today…
Once again, to say no more
No more tolerance
No more acceptance
No more turning a blind eye
No more complacency for my friends, who so tragically die.
There's no brightness, no light
Despite sunny days
As parents bury children
in the saddest of ways.
We’re wearing black too often these days.
