For millions of people looking for romance, the dating app Tinder has been a useful tool since it's launch 5 years ago. A report which was published on Buzzfeed yesterday tells of an 18 year old from upstate New York who tried to use it in a new way and managed to crash her phone from an overwhelming response to her new Tinder profile.
Aline LaReine had used it as a dating app before but deleted it once she was in a relationship. After a discussion with her cousin about how entertaining it had been to see responses on the app to their profiles, the pair decided to create a new one but this time for a completely different purpose. Aline decided to put her cousin's old lamp on Tinder, saying it was 25, and wrote "not looking for hookups, just to sell my lamp. Serious inquiries only."
That's when things got crazy. So many responses came in at once it crashed the app - and all the other functions - on her phone! When she was able to get it working again, she saw that some respondents had creative things to say to the 'lamp' like "I can tell you are different than all the girls here. And I like that..."
There were some who thought it was code for something else, which led to some bizarre offers.
Eventually she sold the lamp for around $90 and the luminous profile was switched off.
