Steve Hofmeyr gets Comedy Central Roast

"Why is Steve Hofmeyr like Engen? There's a pump in every town."

Steve Hofmeyr, 47, will become South Africa's first personality to get a Comedy Central Roast in the style of David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson and Charlie Sheen, Viacom International Media Networks Africa has announced.

The controversial and outspoken artist, who has been through messy sex scandals and public spats and is a poster boy for trouble, will get a roast on Comedy Central (DStv 122) similar to the format used by the channel in America where celebrities are mocked by their peers.

If done well and in the same brutally honest fashion of the American version, it could start a new buzzworthy local TV event for the Comedy Central channel in South Africa.

The Comedy Central Roast of Steve Hofmeyr is scheduled to take place on 11 September in Johannesburg in front of a live audience and will be broadcast on Comedy Central on Monday, 24 September.

"The Comedy Central Roast of Steve Hofmeyr will be a unique, laugh-out-loud event and TV show that should set a new benchmark for African comedy entertainment," says Evert van der Veer, the head of Comedy Central Africa.

"Steve has done more than his fair share to keep the media busy over the years, and he has assured us that nothing will be off-limits to this Roast," says Alex Okosi, the senior vice president and managing director for Viacom International Media Networks Africa.
