She's only two years old, but Pigcasso is proving that she has artistic talent beyond her years. She was rescued from a slaughterhouse by Joanne Lefson who discovered Pigcasso's talent by accident one day after leaving assorted items for her to play with. The then four-month-old-piglet took an instant liking to paintbrushes and with a bit of coaching, Joanne was able to get Pigcasso ready to express her creativity on canvas.
The rest is art history. Pigcasso is the world's first known pig artist and her masterpieces are selling for tens of thousands of rands, as much as R25 000 for a single painting. Her talents benefit other rescued farm animals at SA's only registered sanctuary for rescued farm animals in Franschhoek.
