Lauren Takes German Classes at Bay Language Institute

Lauren writes …

Ich heiße Lauren Mungur. Ich bin siebenundzwanzig Jahre alt. Ich komme aus Südafrika und wohne in Port Elizabeth. Ich bin nicht veheiratet und habe keine Kinder. Ich habe einen Bachelor in Englischer- Literatur und Medienwissenschaften. Ich bin Radio-Moderatorin. Ich spreche ein bisschen Deutsch.

My New Year’s resolution was to challenge myself and learn a foreign language, so for the past two weeks I’ve been attending German classes at the Bay Language Institute in Summerstrand. I visit Germany quite regularly, and decided that on my next visit, I would be able to converse with my friends in their mother tongue. Now when I am at the airport on my way back to South Africa, and we’re all in tears – I’ll finally understand why! Hahaha! (It’s nice to know that friendship transcends language)

Kinga, my German tutor, hails from Frankfurt, and while she’s teaching us grammar and helping with pronunciation, she’s also giving us insights into German culture – our field trip this evening is a visit to the German Club in Charlo, since our last session included a lesson on how to order drinks – a necessary skill when visiting Germany! Ich möchte ein Glas Weiswein, bitte! There are only four of us in the class, which means we’re guaranteed individual attention. It also means that we’re able to practice our newly acquired conversational skills on one another.

The Bay Language Institute offers beginner and intermediate courses in German, Spanish, Xhosa and Afrikaans. It also offers courses in English and Business English, as well as preparation courses for Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). Courses run over a period of 9 weeks, or 36 lessons, and are affordably priced. Class sizes never exceed 8 people, but one on one sessions can be arranged for any of the desired languages.

The Bay Language Institute is a member of Education SA, Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism, Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber and Eastern Cape Tourism.

If you too would like to challenge yourself and try out something new, you can contact Melanie at Bay Language Institute on 041 583 6113 or visit www.baylanguage .com or find them on Facebook.com – BLI – Bay Language Institute.

I’m having a wonderful time learning something new, and meeting new people!

Auf wiedersehen!

Lauren
