World soccer in mourning after deadly Egyptian stampede

Al Ahly has announced that the club will be in mourning for three days after the tragic events that saw 74 fans die and a thousand others injured after last night's match against Al-Masry at the Port Said stadium.

After Al-Masry beat Al-Ahly, the country’s top team, 3-1, hundreds of the winning club’s fans poured on to the field and attacked opposing players, supporters and security officers.

The club published on their official website that they will freeze all activities of the club indefinitely.

The red club as it is known was founded in 1907 and has become one of Egypt's and Africa's most successful winning the Egyptian league 35 time and African champions league 6 times.

FIFA President Sepp Blatter called it "a black day for football".
It was the worst football violence world wide since 78 fans were killed in a stampede at a 1996 World Cup qualifier between Guatemala and Costa Rica.
