Shivnarine Chanderpaul struck a resolute 103 not out yesterday to lift the West Indies to 449-9 declared on the second day of the opening test against Australia in Bridgetown, Barbados.

It was Chanderpaul's 25th century and fifth against the Aussies.

Australia replied with 44-0 by stumps with David Warner hitting 27 and fellow left-hander Ed Cowan 13.
