Warriors bow out with a bang - NMMU into playoffs


The Chevrolet Warriors ended their disappointing Momentum One-Day Cup season on a high note with a 22-run win over the Sunfoil Dolphins at Buffalo Park in East London last night.

After winning the toss and batting, the Warriors made a modest 210 in their 50 overs

Christian Jonker, in just his third Momentum Cup match, produced an excellent innings of 84 off 110 balls.

In reply, the Dolphins could only muster 188 all out in 42.4 overs to lose by 22 runs and also miss out on the semi-finals - finishing in 5th spot - one place above the Warriors.

Andrew Birch took four for 28 in ten overs and Aya Gamane 5 for 28 in 7.4 overs for the Warriors  

Meanwhile:
Hosts NMMU made it three wins out of three with a hard-fought 3-wicket win over Maties on day three of the University of South Africa A-cricket week being played in Port Elizabeth.

The Stellenbosch students made 161 runs after being asked to bat first.
In reply, NMMU finished on 164 for 7 to consolidate their position at the top of the A-section log and advance to the knockout stages. 

In the B-section, University of Fort Hare beat Tshwane University of Technology by four wickets and Central University of Technology beat Rhodes by 92 runs.
