Maties played to a 10-all draw against the University of Johannesburg (UJ) in a dramatic final round of league action last night.
That means that Tuks will now host the fourth-placed NWU-Pukke in next week's semi-finals in Pretoria.
Maties and UJ will play the other semi-final in Stellenbosch
In other last-round action NWU-Pukke thumped Shimlas 64-24
The NMMU Madibaz from Port Elizabeth showed that they were not simply a one-hit wonder, by smashing the Varsity Shield-bound TUT Vikings by 90-34 in Tshwane.
The Madibaz, victors over the Shimlas and Ikeys this season, finished in fifth place on the Varsity Cup log in the process - comfortably their best-ever finish in this tournament.
