Ulster slay Kings 28-7

Ulster scored three second-half tries to claim a comfortable 28-7 Pro14 win over the Kings in Port Elizabeth on Sunday afternoon.

The Kings came into this clash following back-to-back defeats at the start of their Pro14 campaign, and they will be mightily disappointed to have slipped to another loss in their first home game.

The Kings' efforts in the first half were thwarted by ill-discipline, with the hosts conceding as many as 13 penalties, three of which were converted by Ulster scrumhalf John Cooney.

The Port Elizabeth-based side also saw Martinus Burger sent to the sin-bin midway through the opening half, although Ulster were also left frustrated when both Alan O’Connor and Rob Herring were yellow-carded in the opening stanza.

It meant that despite the fact that Ulster had made a whopping 250 metres to the Kings' 56, they had just a 9-0 lead to show for it at the break.

Ulster were also made to pay for the absence of Herring just after the restart, with the Kings launching a powerful lineout drive for captain Michael Willemse to dot down for a try that helped reduce the deficit to just two points.

That try was a big boost for the Kings after all the defending they'd had to do, but momentum swung back Ulster's way as they began to utterly dominate at scrum time.

Indeed, it was off the back of a powerful scrum that former Sharks and Springbok loose forward Marcell Coetzee barged over the try line to send his side into a handy 16-7 lead just after the hour mark.

The result was then well and truly sealed when replacement Angus Kernohan went over for Ulster's second try in the 68th minute, while Amgus Curtis would add one more with the final play of the game.
