More than 700 triathletes reveled in near perfect conditions on the Port Elizabeth beachfront on Sunday morning for the first ever Standard Bank 5150 to be staged in the city.
It was a rare windless day for the athletes who tackled the Olympic Distance 5150 which comprises a 1.5 kilometre swim, a 40 kilometre bike ride and a ten kilometre run.
Race communications director Michael Flanagan says local athlete Jeren Seegers, who was competing in the 30-34 year age group, came out on top as the winner.
His winning time was 2h03:06 with Travis McGrath second in 2h07:09 and Louis de Villiers 3rd in 2h07:24
Flanagan says another PE triathlete in Kelly van der Toorn took the honours in the ladies race in 2h18:37.
Antonelle Saporta was 2nd in 2h21:03 and Michelle Enslin 3rd in 2h23:34
Flanagan says conditions were ideal for good racing with a gentle easterly wind prevailing. He says they could not have wished for a better day.
The shorter sprint event consisting of a 450m swim, 20km bike and 5km run went to former Grey High School triathlete Jamie Riddle who his now now at school at Paarl Roos Gymnasium in Stellenbosch.
