The 2016 Super Rugby semifinals match-ups confirmed

CAPE TOWN, July 24 (ANA) – The 2016 Super Rugby finalists will be decided next weekend with the two semifinals fixtures will be played.

The Lions survived a Crusaders challenge in Johannesburg on Saturday to clinch their home semifinal, against the Highlanders, who beat the Brumbies on Friday.

The Lions ’s win ended the chances of an all-New Zealand semifinal weekend and keeps them in with a chance of potentially hosting the Super Rugby final.

Their opponents, the Highlanders, will be setting off on yet another long haul trip, having been to Port Elizabeth, Argentina and Canberra in the past month.

On the other side of the draw, the Hurricanes are in the box seat for a second straight Super Rugby final, having won their quarterfinal against the Sharks.

Last year’s grand finalists will host the Chiefs in their final clash, with a win guaranteeing them hosting rights for the decider a week later.

Super Rugby semifinals, Saturday, July 30:
Hurricanes vs Chiefs, Westpac Stadium, Wellington
Lions vs Highlanders, Emirates Airlines Stadium, Johannesburg
