Tennis star in SA for charity showdown

With an unmatched 20 Grand Slam titles under his belt, Roger Federer flew into Cape Town from Namibia late on Wednesday afternoon.

Federer is in the country for Friday night's ‘Match in Africa’ showdown against long-time rival Rafael Nadal at the Cape Town Stadium, in Green Point.

Speaking to the media after his arrival, the Swiss tennis star told the media that was “happy to be in South Africa.

"I'm so happy it's here - it's a place where I've come to spend many vacations as a child.  I still have family here in South Africa.”

The Match for Africa exhibition events started in 2010 and Friday's edition will be the sixth although it will be hosted for the first time on African soil.

The previous editions were staged in Europe and USA.

The Federer-Nadal match will be preceded by a doubles match featuring the Swiss star and American business magnate Bill Gates against Nadal and SA-born comedian Trevor Noah.
