Swiss court intervenes - Caster Semenya free to run again

The Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland has ordered the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) regulations which prevent Caster Semenya running races between 400m and a mile to be lifted immediately.

Semenya said she was thankful to the Swiss judges for this decision and hopes that following her appeal she will once again be able to run free.

Swiss counsel for Semenya, Dr Dorothee Schramm said the Swiss Supreme Court has granted welcome temporary protection to Caster Semenya.

"This is an important case that will have fundamental implications for the human rights of female athletes," she added.

Monday's ruling means that Semenya is free to compete in races of all distances without medication to limit her testosterone levels.

The Supreme Court of Switzerland has given the IAAF until June 25 to respond. Until such time, Semenya is free to run without implementing the IAAF's initial ruling. - ANA
